Training at The Bemrose School

The Bemrose School is an interesting, supportive and exciting place to learn, to work and to train for many reasons. The school is on a clear journey of improvement. We strive to improve the outcomes and life chances for all students from all backgrounds.
In September 2014, the school expanded to become Derby’s first all-age school. A separate primary building opened on the same site as the main 11-19 buildings and the first intake of reception aged children began their learning journey.
The current 3 – 19 age range is interesting in other ways. We are a growing secondary school with approximately 1000 children on roll, organised into four houses with mixed age form groups in each house. Within a mainstream setting, we specialise in providing for students on the autistic spectrum with two enhanced facilities on site. Our students come from all over the world, with early English acquisition a particular challenge for many. Even amongst our British born children, prior attainment is often low and large proportions are in receipt of the pupil premium. Nevertheless, behaviour is consistently rated as good and most of our students make good progress from their varied starting points.
All of the above details indicate a school which poses challenges, or opportunities, to those who work here. We place great store on supporting each other, our pupils and our communities so that The Bemrose School is a rewarding place to learn the skills of teaching. Our staff are our most valuable resource and are very experienced in the training and professional development of colleagues.
