A New School Charity

A new dedicated charity, The Bemrose School Charitable Association (BSCA) has been founded. It is:

  • an educational charity created to support pupils in our school.
  • It allows like-minded people to come together to advance the education of pupils alongside the state provision.
  • Led by a Board of Trustees, a team of unpaid volunteers, they must be open and transparent, manage it, raise donations and decide how its money is spent.
  • BSCA is volunteer-run with minimal overheads every pound received goes to support Bemrose pupils
  • BSCA is funded, operated and governed separately from The Bemrose School.

Why has the charity been created?

Many schools have a charity, and Bemrose has joined their ranks.  It meets a real need:

  • A shared vision of Governors, parents, teachers, staff and local community to help Bemrose pupils get even more out of their time at school and fulfil their potential.
  • Aims to support educational activities for pupils that Bemrose’s own budget cannot reach.
  • For public benefit, approved by the Charity Commission and managed by independent Trustees who seek donations, and receive and approve applications for support.
  • Trustees must ensure BSCA is well-managed, and money spent wisely and carries out its purpose for which it was set up and nothing else.

BSCA’s aims and purposes

The new charity was already working in shadow form before the Charity Commission gave its approval which means we are hitting the ground running to:

  • Advance the education of our pupils alongside the state provision.
  • Provide inspirational school visit opportunities to advance the education of pupils.
  • Provide and assist in the provision of facilities, equipment, travel and subsistence for the public benefit.

Projects BSCA supports

BSCA aims to be inclusive. Everyone can get involved in fundraising and creating new projects.

Typical projects include:

  • School Educational Visits
  • Elite Sport Coaching

The creation of our new charity is an exciting opportunity for everyone at Bemrose to get more involved in building an even brighter, better school where every pupil regardless of background or means can flourish. Help us shape the charity to enrich the lives of all Bemrose pupils.
