Physical Education Welcome
Curriculum intentions
Physical education is a popular subject at The Bemrose School. Students in Years 7 to 10 are timetabled 2 hours of PE per week and students in Year 11 are timetabled 3 hours of PE per fortnight. Students have the option to study health and fitness at key stage 4 and gain a recognised qualification. The qualification allows students to develop their understanding of the human body as well as build upon the knowledge of fitness they have acquired in Key stage 3 and 4 Physical Education lessons. In addition, students in the Sixth Form are timetabled 1 hour of PE per week.
The department aims to develop students’ physical skills through 8 different sporting activities each year. Students also develop their understanding of fitness, health & wellbeing in all activities, as well as improving their confidence to organise and lead sporting activities for others during each year. Extra-curricular provision gives students the opportunity to compete in a variety of sporting activities within and outside of school.
Through a culture of inclusion, participation and enjoyment in PE, our aim is to encourage lifelong participation in sport and physical activity for an active healthy lifestyle. Students have access to clubs run by specialist coaches as well as links to clubs within the local community to pursue their interest in sport further.
